Our Exciting New Therapy is State-of-the-Art for Osteoporosis

We are very excited to have added a state-of-the-art piece of equipment to be the core of our non-drug therapy program for osteoporosis.  Bone is constantly remodeling, removing damaged bone and replacing it with new, healthy bone.  With age, and particularly as estrogen declines, osteoclasts which remove bone become more active while osteoblasts which fill in new bone become less active.

Osteoblasts are stimulated to repair bone by a piezoelectric signal created during weight bearing.  This piezoelectric signal is an electromagnetic signal that results from sliding by collagen fibers in bone matrix.  This is similar to static that is created by friction.  This electromagnetic signal activates a receptor on osteoblast triggering proliferation correcting the deficit of bone producing cells.

Interestingly, these receptors on osteoblasts can be “biohacked” by other electromagnetic signals.  Pulsed  electromagnetic frequency therapy or PEMF therapy is the best tool to tap into this pathway increasing bone producing cells.  Clinical trials using PEMF therapy have shown 35% increase in bone mineral density (BMD) in the first year.  This compares to the 5-7% increases that have been shown with drug therapy.

This is an exciting time in the development of non-drug therapies for osteoporosis.  PEMF is at the top of the list.
